Will KVM KO other virtulization hypervisors?
Earlier this month RED Hat released 5.4RHEL. For a long time Red Hat has talked about going virtual – but it has just been chatter. This OS release is the first deliverable to revolve around the open-source KVM hypervisor which is now part of the Kernel (since 2.6). Following the acquisition of Qumranet this past Sept. by Red Hat – this move should come as no surprise.
While I don’t see Microsoft or VMWare shaking in their boots – the likes of openVZ with its recent troubles in the kernel (including talks of ProxMox VE dumping openVZ completely) and Xen not doing much different on the landscape – KVM with the new tools hitting the market might just be the next best hypervisor.
WithOracle making Virtual Iron nothing but an remnant now – what is next for the Virtualized landscape is anyones guess
